Turning to the dark side eh
30g....whats that? About a 3ft tank?
A 3ft tank is capable of holding an adult corn snake or Royal Python, but there are some considerations you need to address. The Hood......for a snake it needs to be ultra secure, no gaps at all, but will need to have ventilation. Thats really your only problem
Heating for a snake can be a heatmat under the tank, and glass is a good conductor of heat.
Other reptile options could be Leopard geckos, of which you could have 3/4 females. Or Sand geckos.....very small and communal so could have a proper little colony.

haha
yh 30g is about 3 foot. im still not sure what size it will be because im still looking for a tank but wont one about that size.
i quite like both the snakes and the sand gekos. what sort of foods are they going to need? i guess live foods like crickets and things? and will they need all the vitimin things like your crested gekos do?

Re: 30G
does this one look any good the lid looke secure and i could make a lid to go over the top of it. and could proberly make a stand for it quite easily because it would be filled with water so wouldnt need to be able to suport asmuch weight.

Re: 30G
That tank would be fine but if you decide on a snake then you'll have to find a way of making the top more secure
These are a couple of Stenos (sand geckos) that I used to keep. Very cute but more for display than regular handling. These are fully grown so don't get very big.

Re: 30G
They're not too bad to see. They come out at night so I had a red bulb so that I could view them without disturbing them too much. You can have quite large colonies with more than one male and sometimes you can hear them chirping to each other.
They like to dig too and by making the sand damp at one end they can burrow easily without the tunnels collapsing.

Just one thing.....if you want something you can handle Stenos are not the best. Leos are easy to handle though. An Ackie wouldn't last long before it outgrows that tank.

Re: 30G
well my mums being harsh and has said no snakes. shes a caution freak and is scared for to reasons one because she said they have salmonella on them and 2 because shes scared my bros might get bit so my reply was they shouldnt be in my room then and im sure if it happence once they wont to it again and then she got in a mood with me. its a pain aswell because i was speaking to a mate and he said his bro has a 4 foot vivarium with heat mat light bulbs and heat bulbs for sale and he has a 2 foot corn snake that hes thinking about selling aswell. they have some 20cm corn snakes at my lfs aswell but she wont let me.
so looke like its a gecko then. how many of the sand or leopard geckos do you think would fit in the tank? and what sexes?
and what foods would i need? crickets and things like that?
thanks :]

Re: 30G
Typical Mums eh
In a 3ft tank you could have a colony of 12 Stenos (sand geckos) is easily attainable You can have more than one male aswell. The only possible problem is sourcing them. They need small crickets, small roaches or flightless fruit flies.
With Leos you could have 3 or 4 females. Best not to have a male unless you want eggs lol. Leos will eat mealworms, crickets and/or locusts.
Both will need heating and calcium suppliments.

Re: 30G
yh i know ill keep trying to get a snake though lol
12 really. would you say 3 male 9 females would work? can you breed any of the things they eat reather than having to buy them all? ill have to see how much the crickets and meal worms cost because you can get them in jollys in town.
can you just buy calcium stuff in lfs that you put them in?
sorry for all the quiestions but i really dont have a clue.

Re: 30G
You should be able to pick up normal leos for about £20 each, however there are bargains to be had:) Breeder shows are a good place....here's a link to a thread about meetings - Rep Shows
Stenos will be slightly cheaper but harder to get hold of.

Re: 30G
haha....good work
Yep an Albino Royal is going to be around £500 - £600
A normal Royal would be anything from £50 up. There's some nice pictures of different morphs here - Royal Morphs
A hatchling corn from a breeder would be £20 upwards, but expect to pay £50 for a normal from a shop. Here's a link to the different colours you can get - Corn Snake Morphs

Re: 30G
wow £500 thats a shame i really like them. some of the royal pythons are nice i think i like them a little more than the corns but i like both but it would also be cool to have 12 of the sand geckos. yh i was looking at all the diffrent morphs just a shame about the albinos. ill have to see how much the corn snakes are at one of my lfs they where only about 20cm. what would you feed on that small?

A baby cornsnake would eat a pinky which is a newborn baby mouse. Usually one every 4 to 5 days.
