Betta fish is suitable as pet fish because it has bright colors, such as blue, orange, red, green, yellow or turquoise. It is sometimes called Siamese fighting fish, and it was originally found in fresh waters, such as rice paddies, in Thailand and Cambodia. Aside from its bright colors, the betta fish has beautiful fan-like fins and tails.

First of all, you cannot use decorative vases as betta fish tanks because the space available for the fish is too small. You might see this kind of display in some of the pet shops that you visit in which a water lily is often placed on the top of the vase. Many people have the misconception that because betta fish can survive in tight spaces like in the rice paddies of Cambodia and Thailand where they came from, they can be made to live in confined spaces like a vase.

You will actually need a fish tank that has about two gallons of water to offer enough space for swimming. It has been observed that the betta fish loves to swim but if the space is limited, it can easily bump into something that may cause injury to its body such as its fan-like fins and tails. It must also be provided with access to the surface of the water because it has to breathe atmospheric air from time to time.

The betta fish has the advantage of not requiring as much dissolved oxygen in the water compared to other tropical fish but it still needs oxygen-rich and clean water. Therefore, it would be advisable to employ a filtration system to prevent contamination by bacteria, ammonia, decaying plants, and other harmful substances. Many filtration systems also create some kind of aeration and this could be adequate for the two-gallon tanks.

You need not purchase an aeration system because the filtration system can produce bubbles on the surface of the water. This would be sufficient for the needs of the betta fish for oxygen in the water.

There are many kinds of available food for betta fish and you can buy them in the form of flakes or pellets for your convenience. You can also purchase those that have been frozen or freeze dried but sometimes, it would also be advisable to buy some brine shrimp, glass worms, and blood worms to satisfy the betta fish’s carnivorous appetite.

You can purchase betta fish supplies like fish food that has been freeze dried or frozen, pellets, and flakes. However, you can also offer glass worms, blood worms, or brine shrimp because this fish is carnivorous. Some bettas may not like to eat pellets so always check first to see what your fish prefers. Uneaten pellets and flakes should be removed from the water because they can rot and produce toxins.

To take care of your betta fish, try to observe how it looks when it is healthy and note any changes in its appearance such as a change in color, when it fails to eat, or if it keeps on hiding. It would be best to consult someone who knows a lot about betta fish before you try to treat it with medication.
