New boys! Photos added!
Phoned a lfs today to check if they still had a gorgeous CT that I saw a few days ago. Looks like Amy's Calcifer. They said he was there so I had them hold him for me. Got there at 5pm, and he wasn't there. Sales assistant was clueless - couldn't even remember what tank he had been in, despite him being the biggest, prettiest betta they had in!
So, I browsed around and found a small but rather lovely blue/red CT (blue iridescent body with crimson fins and blue webbing) that I loved. Got him bagged up to take home when I noticed a betta in one of the tanks on the lowest shelf - down by my feet! I'd seen him in there a couple of days ago but he looked on death's door then, so I didn't expect to see him! He was in a "hospital tank" with a few sickly but aggressive apistos. Sales assistant claimed he was a bit stressed and nipped, but fine and healthy. My rear-end is he healthy! He has no fins. None. Not even ventrals. He looked like he had been put through a blender and he could hardly swim. Colour washed out, fin-stubs cramped, possible fin-rot . . . so I told the guy I was taking him home with me and got him for a pretty hefty discount.
He's now in my QT on his own, shocked to have so much space and not to have to fear other fish! Moving around a lot more, nibbling some bloodworm and looking much happier, although I have no idea yet whether he will make it.
Had to erect a fairly ingenious set-up involving large glass jars and breeding traps, but everyone is happy and warm. The new CT has been cheerfuly flaring at all sorts of odd things and eats like a horse - yay! A healthy fish for once *touch wood*. He's called Balthazar.
Photos coming soon!

He he! You'd never get him back =P
They are really awful with their fish. I need to stop going there, but I always find a reason to go back, and always end up buying something or someone. I'm a bad person =(
