Whats in a name?

So when you get a new betta, what do you base its name on? Colour, personality or just pure randomness?

Indi is based on his colour - Indigo, and it was Netty that gave me the name, so thankyou!

I base mine sometimes on how they look, temperament or sometimes if something happens or I see something.

So my VT was called Strudel because on the way back with him we stopped at Mum's and she'd just made a strudel lol

My copper boy was called Sygun after a Welsh Copper Mine.

I had a female called Storm because she was just that......very aggressive.

One called Breeze because he looked like the sky and was very delicate.

Draco....was obviously a dragon betta.

Keaper.....because he was the first baby from my long finned spawning lines that I decided to keep.

The list goes on......but I wont put them all here or you might all fall asleep

I only have the one Betta named Zeus. He looks like the sky on a sunny day I think, all blue and gold. And I have an interest in ancient history. I tend to just come up with as big a list as possible of names and see which just 'sounds right'. I also have 5 dwarf puffers called Pew, Pew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub (apparently the OH was a big fan of Trumpton in his youth...), a brisstlenose plec called Herman, A Ryukin (Steve), Blackmoore (Mr Big), a Blue Oranda (Hermes), 2 apple snails (Hera and Churchill) and 6 male guppies (Tequila, Schnapps, Tennants, Sambuca, Whisky and Glayva). I think I will name any female guppies after herbs. When I get some female bettas.... I'l be on here asking for suggestions!

I'm Really bad with names so i always ask other people like i have a thread on this forum

haha I name mine by colour or temperament :

Pluto : blue like the planet on planetary maps
Sam : Sam is red black and white Samuri Colours
Zen: He's very chilled out
Anna: Annas = pineapple we thought she was one!
Mim : she looked just like a friends betta (dink) so we called her Mimic - Mim for short.

It's great to see what inspires people when choosing names and it gives away their ages too (Cherrydanio) lol Trumpton....that was my era too :lol!:

lets see my betta names where personality, color or movie refrences.

tweek- because he was a tweeked out little dude.
princess- because she considered herself such.
princess2- princess's daughter.
mcgyver- after my husbands mcgyver obsesion.
strawberryshortcake- a very pink and magenta male betta.
celeste- a very pretty blue female.

the rest of the names ranged from naughty to downright mean. necause well a few of my females where nasty little things and I called them bad names.

my sisters named her bettas stuff like

elmo-my son named it.
forest- a green betta
octo- number of rays

For me only the chosen few ever get named and its usually down to attitude and demeanour ,,

With 200 + fish around at any one time the rest are just numbers pretty numbers but numbers none the less
