New large acrylic tank Empty New large acrylic tank

Post by Shortstakes Mon 23 Jul 2012 - 10:53

I was given a large acrylic tank and have been thinking about putting both a number of male and female betta into the tank along with other fish I'm interested in having. I'm aware that betta fight because its what's natural to them, but I'm also aware that if I'm able to find docile males I can have a tank full of them without having to mess with tank dividers or individual housing.

Should I give this a shot? If I fail to find male bettas that will not fight each other I will be sure to get them all their own tanks.

Just wondering what you guys think I should do and if there are any of you who have succeeded in doing this. If so please share with me your experience so i can learn from it. Thanks

Depending on the size of the tank you could start a sorority with females. As for as I'm concerned I wouldn't add one male let alone multiples. Are you going to interview the males to see if they are docile.. Its more the norm that they will fight than get along.

I have a sorority of the females going in my forty gallon tank. They all get along as long as I keep males out of it. I've always liked the males more since they have more coloring. I Just don't know what to do with the acrylic tank.

The owner of the fish store is willing to let me put males together to see if they'll fight. If nothing happens then I'll have a pair of males that get along and wont have to be sad about torn fins.

But just recently at another fish store I discovered fish called paradise fish. I've never seen them at any other fish store and the man said they are cousins to the betta and the males behave much the same. I'm thinking of starting a sorority of female paradise fish since they are very nice to look at.

Have you looked into the various killifish?

Yes i have, been doing research on all the fish I'd like to have in my acrylic tank, but the two fish stores i like to buy from rarely has killifish so I have to wait since they buy from their breeders.
