new tank!
so, for our anniversary my hubby got me a 5 gallon tank set up!! i was shocked! i asked for one but never imagined he would get it for me seeing as i already have 5 tanks set up i cleaned some sand and put it in with a heater, plants and coconut cave and filled it up to make sure it wasnt going to leak and make sure it is all working ok. now i need help figuring out what to put in it! ive been wanting another boy, but i want to look at all options i may have before i settle!!!! any suggestions?

Re: new tank!
Theres quite a few different things that could go in there
any of the 3 types of pygmy corys
honey gouramis
sparkling gourami
endlers
galaxy rasbora
ember tetra
cherry shrimp
ADFs
I personally would go for somethinklike
6 pygmy corys
4 endlers 1M 3F
1 sparkling gourami
or
6 pygmy corys
6 galaxy rasbora
1 male endler.

i would love the cories, but i have never seen any in any of the lfs's i have, i may have to ask the one i sell the snails too if they can even get them.... i havent seen endlers either, or cherry shrimp just ghost shrimp. im starting to feel left out! i do like and have seen the sparkling gouramis, is the tank big enough? i didnt think it would be, but if it is that is great!

Re: new tank!
Ghost shrimp will get quite big for a 10G. Most lfs will ordder fish in for people if they can make ome money out of it haha. Sparkling gouramis will be fin in there IMO. You could get away with 3 if you had nothing else in the tank

Re: new tank!
I sat on them and broke them:[ jokes I think 3 would work in a 5 g aslong as it is long 5G if is tall then i would go for smaller shaoling fish.

Re: new tank!
I think you could have 3 in there aslong as theres a couple of hiding places. Or you could go for a pair of wild bettas

Re: new tank!
well i want to be by some breeders too i live in the country and aparentaly i must be the only one here into fishkeeping on a serious level!! the people i know with tanks just put water in and whatever fish they want and thats it, no testing or w/c's. poor fish!!
ok so im going to ask my lfs about the gouramis and pygmy cories and see what my options there are adn if not then what else can i do? i looked at the bettas last night, but only one caught my eye but his eyes had what looked like and extension of his coloring over the top half of them or else he would have came home with me then.

Re: new tank!
Thats not to good :[
If you cant get shrimp, endlers, gourami or corys then the only other things i can think of that ca go in there are ember tetra, galaxy rasbora and ADFs apart from that i think a betta is your only other option. Some bettas do have the scaling/colouring that covers overthere eyes haych has a white pair like that. I wouldnt personally buy one but i dont know if it actually harms the fish or just means they cant see aswell.

Re: new tank!
i dont know either, thats why i didnt get him. hubby wouldnt be too happy if i bought him and then he died. he was stunning though, HMBF plakat with really nice coloring. so basically a betta with maybe a ADF or two? can they go together?

Re: new tank!
What colour was he? ive noticed a couple and all have had white in them. Some people have bettas and ADFs together perfectly fine but other have had problems with the ADFs grabbing the bettas tail. I personally wouldnt risk it but its up to you.

Re: new tank!
he was a scarlet red, purple with the white butterflying to his fins. he looked mostly purple with the scarlet accenst to his body and fins. so so pretty! ok so probs not on the ADF, but if i get a plakat do you think the ADF would bother him? there arent any cories that arent pygmy is there? i dont think there are but have to ask.
oh i looked on the box the tank came in and the dimensions are actually 16x8.5x10 in. it works out to be 5.89US gallons.

Re: new tank!
Ive never kept ADFs with PK or heard about it so i cant really help you much there. Pygmy corys are the only types of corys that IMO can be kpt in anything under 10G. Thats a good size for a 5G it gives you alot more options than if it was a tall tank.

Re: new tank!
Sounds good. You might not get i scientific name of them though most lfs just call all 3 types pygmy corys so it might just be luck for what they get in.
