male in female sorority??!!! :S
After noticing one particular betta always trying to find its reflection in the glass i got abit suspicious. Yesterday i also saw a female with breeding stripes, first time ever. But the stripes have gone today. So i decided to place a mirror on one side of the tank.
As suspected the betta that always tries looking for a reflection instantly came up, and flared like mad! the other 'girls' completely ignored it.
Now it did look like a male type flare and it has also got an elongated bosy like male bettas do. But, it has an ovipostor.
Im wondering why there hasnt been any problems before? No breeding behaviour and no bubble nests either. And no violance.
They all seem completely fine with each other.
Is it a male? and what should i do?
thanks

If you could take a photo so we can have a look that would be good, as you probably know some young males do have what look like ovi spots

Will try to get an update picture! If it is a male its defos a PK, because when it flared it had a lovely spread tail!

Hmmm im confused.
Well i just tryed taking some more again, and whilst he/she was flaring if any other 'females' came to investigate she would flare and chase them away.
Ill just leave him/her in there for the time being. until i see any more male type beahiour!
thanks for the help!

Yeah I mean sometimes you have to separate off the odd aggressive female, they dont all get on well with each other all the time. A while ago one of my females Mim, who behaved a lot like a male, had to be removed from the other girls for her own tank but she was most def female I even bred her successfully

My new black female is like that too, she is constantly looking into the glass looking at her reflection, she flares at the other females and chases them away, noticed this morning she ripped a scale off the side of maple my blue betta (i was shocked)
Put a mirror in front of tank shes first there looking but never flares at herself, but flared at Haku my male betta before i put her in her tank when i bought her sunday.
Think iv seen her spot once but its hard to tell.
Hopefully things will calm down in the big tank when its sorted, as they'll have more room and hiding places to theirselves!
Never had breeding stripes on other females but 1 has had stress stripes since sunday when they all got put together.
Hope things sort out for you.

I have had a male in a sorority but never had breeding stripes, yet I have also had three females together and one always had breeding stripes.
I also have an aggressive female that flares at any female passing. She actually gets on better with males!

I think my tank is how it is just now because Tizzy is in Qt as she has Dropsy. She was the dominent female, and with her being out, they need a new boss!!
