Shrimp? Empty Shrimp?

Post by lilacamy931 Sun 25 Apr 2010 - 17:23

Hey Peeps
On the big move around and want to put my 4-5 cherry shrimp together in perhaps a species only tank to get them breeding (havent had them do so before hand). What conditions do they need to breed and could silk plants be used instead of real? Are heaters and filters appropriate if regular water changes done?

hiya Smile

Any tank size is suitable tbh, but id say starting off around 5G is best. (so they dont spread out much, as their are only a few)

They need warm temperatures to breed. 26C is good. A cycled filter is a must from what ive read in the past. and also a few live plants, as the feed off these aswell as resting/hiding on them.

This link should be of use;-

Thanks for that babes, Alex has donated me his cube wavo which is a 10g and perfect! Thanks for the link x I know the airpump filters are the best but cant stand the sound of the pump. I have a HOB or mini elite would either of those do perhaps with say stocking over the intake? Thinking giant clumps of java moss x

10g will be fine. they will breed in hot and cold water. i have a breeding group of 6 ATM in a coldwater 6g. none of mine have ever had a problem with getting sucked into the filter they like to sit under the intake and pic bits out of the filter.

they hide behind it in the day aswell because theres still current and the like to sit infront of the intake aswell and catch bits of food that come out.

Brill babes thanks! Two last stupid qs

1. Someone has just given me a ton of ramshorn for my puffs to breed, could these go in the cube tank with shrimp or will there be problems?

2. If it was just shrimp or shrimp and snails could I use a mini elite filter or wouldnt it cope with the bioload? Embarassed

the snails and shrimp will be fine together. the bio load shouldnt be to much because shrimp make bearly any waste.
