Problems dividing a tank
I have an elite 60L which I won on ebay. I want to divide it into 2, but it has a 3D backgrund already siliconed inside it. I'm reluctant to remove it in case it damages the tabk, but how can I divide it with it in place? I am planning to use home-made dividers made out of slide binders and plastic canvas.
Thanks!
Thanks!

if its sillocened in cant you just put it in like normal but on one side it will be held in place by the background not the glass?

Re: Problems dividing a tank
That's what I want to do, but the background is textured so the divider doesn't sit flush against it - sorry, I should have said that!

Re: Problems dividing a tank
u could silicon it but it would ruin the background if you took it out. or you could cut out a slit for the divider to sline into because that wouls only nned to be tiny if you take the clip bits off and just use the plastic.

Re: Problems dividing a tank
How about using a marker pen to draw a straight line down the background where you want the divider to go. Then use a craft knife and ruler to cut up the line. Only go in about a cm. Then you should be able to slip the divider into the groove [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Problems dividing a tank
I have a bowed front tank I had to put in a divider til the new tanks get in tommorrow cause Angeline was being harrassed by the guppies so I bought a plastic divider for a ten, cut to fit slid into place. It helps that I am using sand, but I believe it could be done with gravel, too. Mine is temporary, but so you know. When I slid it in the plastic bows a bit on the side , I tried to take some pics am loading them now.

This tank of ours is a bow front. You can divide exaxtly the same as a normal tank.

Re: Problems dividing a tank
you should be able to take the 3d background out - it should just be silliconed on - which use a sharp filleting knife or razor to remove the silicon - its what I did

Re: Problems dividing a tank
The tank needs to be empty and dry. If you're using aquarium sealant to stick them in place then you need to give that at least 24hrs to dry and set completely before adding the water back in.
Good luck and let us have a peek when you're done

Re: Problems dividing a tank
a hex should be just as easy to divide. just cheack the fish have enough room to swim because in the hex i used to have the tank was alot taller so if you half that there wouldnt be much space to swim apsrt from up and down.

Re: Problems dividing a tank
Got some dividers like in Sheenas photo but had a problem when i tried putting it in the hexagon tank, inside my tank iv got a small platform where the old filter would have sat and it wasnt possible to take it out. So my plans had to change, iv put the divider in the 6 gallon rectangle tank for now as the chinese algae eaters need to be separated.

Re: Problems dividing a tank
no, i dont have a car until my hubby gets here in 12 days, he lives 255miles away so only get to see him every other weekend...so its too far to walk so i needed to divide a tank!
Yes i could've done but i wouldnt have been able to clip the side binder on that side so wouldnt have been as secure as i want it to be...defo wouldnt have wanted them to get through as my betta would be at the other side of the divide. So really it s worked out better for my betta as now he'll have the whole tank to his self.

Re: Problems dividing a tank
you could silicone it to the tank. it should be secure enough with out it. alot of people dont have the clips on there.
