Re: Lazy free loaders finaly got to work!
yes they are for eating. after haveing real fresh eggs with soild white and orange yolks going back to store bought just tastes kinda icky. granted if we dont have enough eggs in a day I use store bought for baking because the difference is less noticable there.
and I have 4 hens laying now. Tim still hasnt bumped out the wall and installed the nest boxes so I found a old water bucket the horses no longer use and proped it up with bricks. all but one hen has laid every egg in there, and I suspect the egg that got laid on the floor today was a girls first egg:)
I really REALLY want some bbs(blue/black/splash) orpingtons and a buff rooster. I want to be able to hatch some chicks next spring and sell day old chicks. the nice thing about these birds is they grow large fast so surplus roosters make real nice chicken dinners. even if they do end up eaten at least they will have a great life before they die.
Tim is thinking of enclosing the garden in better and using a another small flock as weed prevention. we might buy a batch of meat chicks and raise them for that.

welll netty urban chicken keepers often keep only two or three hens in a small coup like these.

Awww I love those....they'd look great in the back garden.
My friend has recently set up one similar in her back garden. Maybe one day when we don't have so many dogs out there to bother them.
