I finally got my new male betta tank, it holds approx. 65 or so litres, slightly bigger than my tropical community!

So how many males can i fit in this size??,

I have sand left from the 15kg bag, for plants i will take cuttings and need to buy filter and heater.
Oh yeah dividers also!

ps. i see some people have almond leaves in there filter and heater section, whats that for and do i need it?

Hiya
Whats the dimensions of the tank? Easier to determine how many males you can have:)
Indian Almond Leaf (IAL), is a natural tonic and is found in the Bettas natural habitat. Needs replacing regularly to avoid it going bad.

just make sure you have about 14 litres for each fish

Yeh, you can have a small section specifically for the filter and heater. The almond leaf can go anywhere really. Pip has some nice pics of her tank on here somewhere:)
I would personally go for 4 sections for bettas, with a smaller section for the filter etc...That should give each section around 4 gallons thumbup

thanks, Was thinking possibly 4 males with bit for heater/filter. That would be approx 14.5l each.
But i most probarly wont get them all at once, so might start with 2 sections then increase.

I've brought my filter and heater off ebay now, so will wait till it comes, then do fishless cycling.

Can't wait! I will have a beautiful betta tank!!

You have another tank dont you? If so, you can speed the cycle up by pinching a bit of the filter media out of it and put it in your new one thumbup
If you do this, make sure you either keep fedding the new filter to keep the bacteria alive or put a fish straight in :D

when I do the dividing I always silicon things in place, even the very good penplax dividers. its easier to do that empty. if you have blank spaces for a while thats ok, only gives you motvation to fill in the blanks.

65 litres will probably be closer to 60 once you factor in the space taken up by the filter/heater/decor, and potentially even less if you have plants and deep substrate. If I want to make sure I have 3 gallons per fish, I'd only divide it into 3. That way they get around 20 litres each, minus whatever is taken up by decor/substrate/etc. If you divide into 4, you'll only have just over 16 litres max to play with, and that'll go down when you add stuff to the tank.

I've also heard that tank sizes that are published by makers are often taken from the outside measurements.

It's a long tank, rather than a tall one, so it'll be easier to divide =)

Have fun dividing it, I'd just recommend to be generous with the sections rather than trying to fit as many as possible in based on the 'on paper' measurements rather than how much space they will actually have. I'd say you can fot three boys in there comfortably, 4 if you're willing to compromise on space a tiny bit.
