They do flare a lot, some even make bubblenests. However, males have gill beards that extend significantly below the gill plate.

Idk, I'm not very experienced in identifying, but it looks like a vt girl to me. Her fins look too long to be plakat (male or female) relative to the body, and usually on plakats the dorsal fin has a wider base so that it makes sort of a half circle.

She's a very pretty multicolor, though.

I'd agree with ectcetera... and she's definately not pk (unless a hm/pk cross)
still looks like fm ... if she's got two ray branching she's Vt.

If more than the two then could be from Hm lines but going by that pic I really would go along with ectcetera's view.

Females flare often if they have new competition as in another female or if they feeling confident and possibly ready to breed they will easily flare back at males.

Hi
I dont think thats the egg case that you can see, but imo its light reflection. Body shape says female, but the anal fin screams male. The anal fin looks like its been nipped and this is often caused by females. If you have a breeder trap, it might be worth popping her in there with a something floating to see if she bubblenests?

If she is a he, it could be that she/he chased Ruby and thats why Ruby hid in the filter.

We had a rougue male in a sorority that chased a female, and she jumped through the hole in the hood where the wires go out!
