White Decorations
Do they start getting really manky-looking after an amount of time?
My room is red and white, and I'm hoping to follow this theme by either having white gravel and red decorations or the other way around, with a plain red or red and turquoise fish.
Also if anyone knows of some nice white/red betta-safe plants or (even better!) hides/caves, please post them up here!

Re: White Decorations
I've never had any white decorations, but when I had multi coloured gravel the white bits went a horrible dirty colour really quickly.
Try and stay away from the coloured fern things you might find in Wilkinsons or on ebay as they tend to leach out the colour into the water and i'm not sure that's safe! My water went so manky and blue when I had one!
You can get some great silk plants that are red in colour - silk is better than plastic for a betta as the plastic may rip the long, sensitive fins.
Sounds like you'll have a lovely set up

Re: White Decorations
I can't remember, is sand a suitable substrate for bettas? Silica sand is lovely and white and I can't imagine that it'd get massively dirty.
I really like the little squishy white coral type decorations;

I could get some of these with some red gravel/sand, I'm just having trouble finding a nice white decoration for fishy to chill in that's not huge, but big enough to stop him getting trapped!

I have red gravel in my 100 litre tank its great doesnt get dirty as easy as the white gravel i had in one of my other tanks, those white squishy coral decorations are really nice and move in the current of your filter BUT they tend to get grubby quite easily, i use milton baby bleach in water to clean them gets the muck off and is brilliant white again!
Sand is ok to use but i dont like it so opted for the bright red gravel.
Never seen any white decorations like a cave, but il keep my eyes peeled for you
Sounds like you have fab plans for your aquarium, cant wait to see some photos when you are done

Re: White Decorations
Hi
White gravel/sand really does need a lot of regular cleaning:( I admit, white sand looks great at first, but it doesn't stay that way
How about black sand with white pebbles or stones?

Re: White Decorations
I think I'm gonna go with some nice red sand and white decorations, black would be practical but my room is themed very light and I want it to fit in
Does anyone know if this would be safe as a hideaway? I have one in my room and they're lovely and round, and have a handy flat side to stand them on. I'd bury the little hole under the sand to stop a too-curious fishy trying to squeeze through xD
I'm more wondering if a glaze could contaminate the water.

Re: White Decorations
Oh cool, that's good news :D Looks like I need another trip to ikea! The hole is tiny, I'll bury it just in case but I doubt a fully-grown fishy would manage to get in it xD
