RIP Rusty
Sadly had to be put to sleep today. He's gotten worse over the last couple of days and it wasn't fair to keep him going any longer.
Sweet dreams my sweet little boy. We'll miss you so much
If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years -
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come, so let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve - it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years -
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Sorry Netty I was only thinking about Rusty the other day and wondering how he was. He had a fantastic life with you. Thank you for loving him. I have read that poem before so skated over it but still made me cry. Hugs to you and your family xx

Re: RIP Rusty
Thanks everyone for you kind words.
As you can imagine I'm in bits at the moment and miss him terribly. I hope my little boy is pain free and at peace now wherever he may be.
Apologies if I'm not around as much for a while. Just need a bit of time to get my head together but I really do appreciate all you thoughts.

Re: RIP Rusty
Thanks guys.
Well I got Rusty's ashes back yesterday from the Vets. I've ordered a lovely wooden engraved box to put his ashes in as they just came back in a seagrass pouch and I'd rather have something more solid with his name on.
I found a gorgeous photo of him that I'd taken when I first got him so have had that framed too.
It's so strange without him here. Even though he was so small and quiet, you really notice the difference and I miss him keeping my feet warm at night even though I never had any room.

Re: RIP Rusty
Thanks Liz. He's definately left a big one on mine.
I have to say also, how good the vets have been. The whole thing was dealt with so nicely and with such dignity for him. They even sent me a lovely sympathy card from all the staff last week which was such a nice thought.

Re: RIP Rusty
When your vet is supportive it means so much, especially in times like these.
The photo of Rusty is gorgeous, definitely frame worthy!

Re: RIP Rusty
It is so hard loosing them even when you know your going to, my heart goes out to you Netty. My freind Marilee put Katmandu's Ashes in a speical box and it sits on the mantle above the fireplace. So he is still a part of the family. They do leave big dents in our hearts when they go.

Thanks guys. It's getting easier but still have my moments. He's on our Mantlepiece too at the moment and hopefully the little box will arrive this week so I can settle him in next to his photo.
