Water movement
I know bettas like very gentle water movement in their tanks, and the two tanks I've got running have just that, but what about surface movement? Am I silly to worry about aeration or lack of it?
It goes against the grain compaired to all my other tanks, as they all have good surface movement and/or airstones in, so I just want to make sure little or no surface movement is ok :D

Re: Water movement
I think surface movement is always good, you could use a very low powered air stone?
But I also agree with Kizno :D

Re: Water movement
The filter I have in the glass cube has a spray bar on it that I can adjust so that's no problem there.
The other tank I'll have to think about unless I have the filter so the outflow is just breaking the surface. That way I'll get some movement without having to worry about airstones.
It's like mission impossible getting a still tank with surface movement [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Water movement
none of my tanks are 100% still, just very gentle for the males. the female tank is just a regular set up, they get use to swimming threw it.

Re: Water movement
I'd have to make one for the Fluval 1+ as they don't sell one for it. Could be done as I have a mini spray bar from another filter. I guess I could just use the smaller filter actually, but prefer the larger size of the Fluval. Where did I put that silicone sealant? hehekizno1 wrote:you could try and get a spray bar for it.
I had females in my Arc tank and they were fine with the other small filter I've got. Just not sure that will be sufficient for my 30L tank.Newfishy wrote:none of my tanks are 100% still, just very gentle for the males. the female tank is just a regular set up, they get use to swimming threw it.
Guess I could try it and see :D

Re: Water movement
I just found an airdriven sponge filter I forgot I had but the noise drove me mad so I've put the smaller filter with the spray bar in. I had actually forgotten how powerful the little filter is and it's doing the job perfectly.
Panic over :D

See, now I love the noise from my biorbs and biube! I have admittedly changed the airpump for something silent...the stock pumps are grossly noisy, but I love the sound of the bubbles coming up the bubble tubes [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Water movement
The photos never did him justice. He had an opalescent bluey shimmer to him that was amazing. When I first got him I was told he was a DT but it was just that he had a bad case of tail splitting. He healed up nicely though as you can see.
I ended up rehoming him when I downsized the 12 tanks I had running at the time when I set up my marine tank

Re: Water movement
you want to add tubing to a 1+ hun
use tubing from a cheap syphon - gravel vac - fits on filters perfectly
this one is a fluval 1+ filter - sealed the end of the tube with a lighter - got it hot and squeezed it together then punched the holes in the pipe
