Floating betta log
Ok it's not marketed as a betta log but it's perfect for bettas.
I have a 27g planted tank that I very recently added a betta to. I was in the lfs and saw this floating log for sale and realised it'd be perfect to give Mr. Betta a hideaway from the other fish.
It's basically a floating hollow fake but realistic looking plastic log with holes in so you can see the fish. Even better there's also a hole on the top of it so the fish has access to the surface of the water from inside the log.
My betta immediately latched onto the log and now has decided it's his lair and defends it from the other fish in the tank.
This pic is a bit dark but you can see it here:

..and here he's guarding the entrance of it

Here's a pic of my full tank, the log is floating in the upper left corner.

The brand of the log is Zoo Med and it's just called "Floating Aquarium Log" it comes in three sizes, small, medium and large, I have the small one.
Anyway I figured I'd share because I've not seen one of these before and it's really great for bettas. Easy to put one or two of these as well into sorority tanks I'd think to provide even more hidey holes and break up lines of sight in the top level of the water.

Re: Floating betta log
Thats a brilliant idea, particularly with the hole in the top for Mr Betta. He doesn't even have to come out for food

That's fantastic We'll definately be getting one for our soon to be sorority tank. Have you fixed it in place at all or does it pretty much stay where it is?

Re: Floating betta log
I've not fixed it at all so far. The output from the filter is in the diagonally opposite corner and I don't have a strong surface current so it just stays as it is. I think if I wanted to have it in another location I'd probably have to fix it in place.
I think it would be easy enough though with abit of aquarium DIY know how to make it stay in a less naturally "I want to float here" location.
One thing I forgot to mention is that the log is weighted so that it doesn't roll around in the water. I.e. the top will always stay as the top. Part of what it's designed for is for baby aquatic turtles or frogs etc. to climb on top of if they want to get out of the water so they needed the stability for that.

Re: Floating betta log
Just wait....next week, everyone here will have one lol
I think the far side of my tank has minimal movement so it should stay nicely in the one place.

Re: Floating betta log
I saw one of these at the store! A little pricey for a plastic log but I might have to look into it for our sorority tank. I'm glad that the bettas like it so much!
