Going To Get Some New Girls
Just rang the LFS and they have had their delivery of females in :D the better thing is that they are only £1.95 as well. they are only to increase numbers so that the dominance is spread over a larger number. so i'm going to go get some as soon as my dad gets home from work
I'll keep ya posted :D

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
How many gallons does the tank hold and what other fish do you have in there? It's good to keep little schooling fish with girls because they become sort of a distraction, lol. Six is a good number if it doesn't overstock your tank, but the more the merrier, generally. New girls will upset the order in your tank, so be careful how you introduce them. It's a good idea to completely rearrange the decor in the tank before you put them in so that the pre-existing territories get broken up. Maybe throw a bit of food in there to distract them.

Agree with Etcetera :D Also, you can remove the girls you have already while you are rearranging thigs. Keep them out somewhere warm for an hour, then put the new girls in, followed by the originals

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
Okay i have neons and glowlights and platy's and guppies + few gouramis. the only thing the existing girls seem to use is the floating plants i have soo might remove that and them, then add the new ones. i may get a teners worth so 5 new ones or do you think that will upset them a bit too much??
Thanks for the help :D

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
You can but try Nath I would imagine the new girls at the lfs have been kept together, so that will help :D Make sure you spend ages watching them when you go to get them. You'll be able to see the dominant ones, which you can avoid.

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
Put them all in the tank together. not that much aggression at the mo but the first female i bought of daz a wile ago has decided to take charge and is chasing all of them away from her patch. i think they all might be CT's which would be great :D

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
We found that its the squabbling for the lower positions that caused the most problems It may be a few days before they start vying for positions, maybe a week or so.

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
Gouramis, huh.. Putting different species of anabantids together isn't usually recommended, but I guess if it works, it works. D: Gouramis can be aggressive/nippy and territorial also, not typically the best combination. Might wanna keep an eye on those too. Good luck!

Re: Going To Get Some New Girls
i've had female bettas in with dwarf , honey and red robin gouramis for a couple of months and have had no problems so far
added some new girlies and still no probs
but i suppose it depends on the size of the tank
they are in a rio 300 also with GBR rams , cockatoo apistos , corys , plecs , harlequins , rice fish , guppys shrimp and snails
I have an area of dense floating plants in one corner secured by a cucumber clip and the girls spend a lot of time lying aroung in there
but when they do come out and about all seems well - i suppose it depends on the actual fish
I found increasing water flow to prevent male gouramis building nests also helps curb their aggression
