Betta talk
Just found out some info on the fish that are still in quarantine. You know the guy who said he has green bettas. He said they are true fighting fish - like the pitbulls of the fish world. Apparently these guys are used in actual fighting where you bet on who's the winner or looser. Sounds like these little guys might be pretty ordinary, just more aggressive. Im starting to feel disappointed and Im imagining the colours may be pretty ordinary too. I know a lot goes on in the underworld, no doubt these fish may end up as tools for illegal betting. I'm always hearing about illegal dog fights around my area. I hope people will not buy these fish for that purpose, I may have to buy a few to keep them from a very sad future.

Re: Betta talk
Thats very compassionate of you, but I think its a futile effort at best. I don't
believe its possible to buy and purchase all the Bettas that are used in this ugly and
horrible fashion. You'd probably be just scratching the surface.
If you buy Bettas from this store they will continue to profit and not even
reduce their orders. Its a no win no win situation for you and the Bettas.
There are Animal Right Agencys against cruelty to animals and I'm sure you
have one there. Contact them with your suspicions.
I certainly do applaud your concerns though. Any animal promoted fights
should dealt with harsh treatments where the laws govern against it!

Re: Betta talk
The fact the guy is even saying these things makes me feel absolutely disgusted that he's running a pet shop. I absolutely would not buy from him as it will just support this trade, and I would report him to your local animal welfare organisation.
Plus, aggression depends on individual fish. It is plakats (short-tailed betta splendens) who were originally bred by the Thais for fighting, and who are most prized for their aggression by the underground betta fighting scum, but my little PK boy is one of the most placid bettas I've ever had.
To be quite honest it sounds to me like this guy is just getting in a batch of normal red, blue and turquoise veiltails and is trying to talk them up to sell them to sickos who like to fight animals but don't actually know or care about the species or its care.

Re: Betta talk
Im hoping he is the rescuer and is genuinely just selling them as ordinary bettas. Ill let you know next Thursday what type they are and if his intentions are just catering for the obsessed people like me. But my question is why is he only importing in this type and not the real exotic ones that we all want and keep.

Re: Betta talk
Just inquire of the availability and/or maybe they will look into the matter.
