Back To Cycling Again.
I managed to score some filter bacteria today as I have to get tanks ready to receive some new
Bettas. Is it necesarry to add the bacteria to the filter or can I bag it and just leave in the tank.
I'll still rub some on the both new filter pads. Going to run both filters in the same tank for now while
adding ammonia.

Re: Back To Cycling Again.
Is it in used media or a liquid product? If it's media I usually just put it inside the filter with the new stuff.
Re: Back To Cycling Again.
Its used media. Its pretty old and filthy looking. I do have some API Stress
Zyme, but have heard mixed results. I suppose one could cut a smaller section
and add to the new.
I'm filling the 20gl. long now and plan on dividing it for the time being and when I get a few more females I'll just remove the dividers.

Re: Back To Cycling Again.
Old and filthy is better! (when it comes to filter media, anyway). A small bit should be enough if you didn't want to put the whole piece in. I seeded my huge external filter for the divided tank with two tiny bits of sponge and floss and some used ceramic noodle things, it worked really quickly.
Re: Back To Cycling Again.
When I went to pull it out from the bag it literally fell apart in my hand. I
ended up rubbing some on both sides of the filter bags (cycling two filters
at once in the same tank) until fairly gunky. Then I squeezed the majority
over the new filters, inserted them and pour the remainder in the well of
the housing. Added ammonia until it read 5.0ppm. I also added API Stress
Zyme for what its worth.

Re: Back To Cycling Again.
Euchh I hope you washed your hands afterwards
Sounds like it should work quickly! Fingers crossed.

Oh! I had sanitary wipes on hand even before I washed my hands!

Re: Back To Cycling Again.
Finally the ammonia dropped and nitrites are present @.50ppm. Now all
I have to do is keep adding ammonia for a week as I won't be able to
receive the fish until then.
