Betta Addiction Questionairre! Empty Betta Addiction Questionairre!

Post by 2tall Sun 14 Nov 2010 - 15:03

This is for those out there that think they might have the beginnings of the Betta Addiction. There has
been no formal studies that I'm aware of and these are just some sample questions. This is not to be
used as a valid diagnosis, but as a self awareness tool only!

Ask yourself:

1) Have close ones in your life expressed concern?
2) Does your family cat or dog have only one permitted space in the dwelling?
3) Do your Bettas have a healthier diet than you as you continue to make sacrifices?
4) Has your electric or water bill have an unexplained substantial increase?
5) Have you mounted your TV high on the wall or the ceiling?
6) Do you refuse to eat fish in front of your Bettas?
7) Is there more than one occupied Betta bowl in the shower?
Cool Do you lie(by omission) or hide new ones from family or/and friends?
9) Have your neighbors transfered their children to another school?
10) Do you have exceedingly long conversations with one or more of your Bettas.

This is a self rated sample test and feel free to score as your conscious allows!

1) Have close ones in your life expressed concern?
Yeah, but that's in general, not just because of the betta/puffer addiction. Wink

2) Does your family cat or dog have only one permitted space in the dwelling?
Well, my dogs have the run of the house but they get told to stay away when they're near the tanks. A big lumbering labrador can do a lot of damage. I should know!

3) Do your Bettas have a healthier diet than you as you continue to make sacrifices?
Well I never forget to feed them. I have forgotten to feed myself though!

4) Has your electric or water bill have an unexplained substantial increase?
There has been a hike but not extortionately.

5) Have you mounted your TV high on the wall or the ceiling?
I have considered it lately because then I could have that table for another tank.

6) Do you refuse to eat fish in front of your Bettas?
Well, its just rude isn't it?

7) Is there more than one occupied Betta bowl in the shower?
None but only because the cables would have to run through the doorway. No sockets in bathroom.

Do you lie(by omission) or hide new ones from family or/and friends?
No, its my addiction, I don't ask anyone to subsidise it. Wink When I start stealing from them to buy more then they can have an input.

9) Have your neighbors transfered their children to another school?
No kids yet but maybe when I do have kids - though that may be for a whole set of other reasons! lol

10) Do you have exceedingly long conversations with one or more of your Bettas.
Not with them but about them!!!

1) Have close ones in your life expressed concern? Oh yes! "You are nuts" is a common phrase.
2) Does your family cat or dog have only one permitted space in the dwelling? No, they roam freely.
3) Do your Bettas have a healthier diet than you as you continue to make sacrifices? I hate to admit it but yes! I have very spoiled bettas.
4) Has your electric or water bill have an unexplained substantial increase? Um, yes.
5) Have you mounted your TV high on the wall or the ceiling? No
6) Do you refuse to eat fish in front of your Bettas? I don't eat meat, so that doesn't apply.
7) Is there more than one occupied Betta bowl in the shower? Haha, No bettas in the bathroom.
Cool Do you lie(by omission) or hide new ones from family or/and friends? Oh yes, I have not told a soul about the sick fish I just rescued except you guys on this forum. Tired of hearing "You're nuts". LOL! He's hiding in a bowl in an electric blanket.
9) Have your neighbors transfered their children to another school? N/A
10) Do you have exceedingly long conversations with one or more of your Bettas. Sure! I talk to the snails too! Haha! My theory is that sound waves can travel through water, so maybe they get to understand words like dogs do. You never know! I know, I'm nuts.

Betta Addiction Questionairre! Empty Re: Betta Addiction Questionairre!

Post by KalandraJane Thu 18 Nov 2010 - 5:32

1) Have close ones in your life expressed concern?
-My mother has said 'they're always dying' (after one fish keeled over the day after arriving home - it's hardly anything I'm doing Rolling Eyes ) and 'I'd stick to something easy like goldfish'. (How little she knows!)

2) Does your family cat or dog have only one permitted space in the dwelling?
-Scamp the dog pretty much does what he likes, being nearly fourteen and set in his ways, though he's not allowed in the bathroom or on the bed.

3) Do your Bettas have a healthier diet than you as you continue to make sacrifices?
-they leave some rather disgusting things in the freezer compartment, which could otherwise be taken up with potato waffles, vegan sausages etc. for me... I deny myself frozen treats.

4) Has your electric or water bill have an unexplained substantial increase?
-yes, by about 50% in the last three months! I don't pay for water though, I'm fairly sure my landlord is on the fiddle.

5) Have you mounted your TV high on the wall or the ceiling?
-no, it squats in the corner of my living room, taking up valuable tank space and sulking because it only gets watched when my boyfriend is here.

6) Do you refuse to eat fish in front of your Bettas?
-I'm a vegan, so I don't eat fish full stop. Personally I think it's totally illogical to deem one subspecies a 'pet' and another 'food' - you wouldn't keep a pet chihuahua then eat a labrador.

7) Is there more than one occupied Betta bowl in the shower?
-No, but my bath is currently full of hospital tanks and dismantled filter bits.

8. Do you lie (by omission) or hide new ones from family or/and friends?
-Thankfully nobody is that interested, other than my friends who bring their two toddlers to see 'the cheap zoo' ie. my flat.

9) Have your neighbours transfered their children to another school?
-I don't think they go to school, they spend most of their time dodging traffic on their bikes and swearing at people.

10) Do you have exceedingly long conversations with one or more of your Bettas.
-Mainly I just gawp at them making fish faces.
