Watch those snails!
Now that my 6 gallon tank has cycled, I decided to put my ivory mystery snail in there with my delta tail betta Sequin. Unfortunately, Sequin decided the snail was dinner! Even though the snail is bigger than he is, he bit off half a feeler and ate it, took a chomp out of her side and ate that too. Good thing I was watching -- I grabbed the snail out of there. I put her in with my double tail instead, who just studies her closely and doesn't try to hurt her. Just goes to show that some bettas can't deal with snails. So if any of you were thinking of adding pet snails with your bettas, keep a close eye on them! At least at first!

Out of all of my bettas, only three of six will accept the snails without attacking them. It's disappointing as I wanted snails in all my tanks but don't want the little critters to get eaten alive!

Yes, "Ivory" the snail appears to be fine. Luckily for snails, if they lose part of a feeler it grows back. So will the body if the missing part isn't very large.

Re: Watch those snails!
I used to recommend a lot to betta owners to get a mystery snail. This was due to my experiences with my crowntail Flame (my first betta) who lives with two snails and has never touched a one. He even sits with the snails and wraps his tail around them like he's hugging them. But after watching the extreme aggressiveness of most of my other bettas, I say, unless you have the time to sit and watch your tank for long periods of time making sure the snails aren't getting beat up & hurt, don't get a mystery snail. Maybe get another type of snail that is covered by its shell better, like a zebra snail.
