How long do bettas live?
Im just wondering how long bettas generally live from your point of view, i have looked up on the internet that they can live upto 2 years but can they live longer?
Im only asking as 1 of my oldest betta's at 18 months old is looking grim he's always been very active and eating well, always nosey, but lately he's looking 'old' like an old man! He's still eating but he's now started to hide in his coconut cave and only generally coming out to take a breath and at meal times.
What are the signs of being old?

Re: How long do bettas live?
I'v heard two to three years is the average. I heard a story(hear I believe)
of one living either 5 or 7 years I think. Sounds far fetched to me, but I
suppose its possible.
Of course I haven't been in it long enough to speak from firsthand experience.
Signs of being old. I'm not posting a picture of myself!

I think they should given the conditions they need to thrive make 3 easy. I would say3-5 if how long they should last but there are those that live 7-8 years.

How about seasoned then?
Is he in a divided tank or by himself? Always good to check water conditions.
I'm fairly confident in my routine as far as wc's but like to spot check once in
awhile for peace of mind.

See what I know! Maybe I should keep my fingers tied! Would be excellent if they lived to 7-8 years, but
right now I'll settle for one and go from there.

Haha you where right aswell. The average in an aquariums is probable only 1-3 years and thats for well cared for ones i was meaning given perfect conditions i think 3-5 would be about normal.

I did my tests and got:
Ammonia ~ 0.25
PH ~ 7.6
NitrIte ~ 0
NitrAte ~ 0
Time out has explained to me what i need to do on another forum, so its a 50% water change tonight.

Im sure she has already said it then but just incase. There should never be any Ammonia or Nitrites at all. Anything above 0 is bad for the fish and if it goes about .5 they your likely to end up with a load of dead fish.
