Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Its probably just another name LFS have made up to make it sound better than a half moon. i would guess its just a half moon but i could be wrong.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
That's 3 shops I've been in to now that when I mention my love of HM's they ask "have you seen a full moon? they're even better"
I've not seen one and I can't find a pic of one on the net either

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Sounds impossible!
If a half moon has a 180* tail, a full moon would have a 360* tail... that just doesn't work xD

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Logically a 'full moon' would be a betta whose tail spreads to 360 degrees, if a halfmoon is 180, but I'm pretty sure such a fish has never been bred and would be physically impossible anyway, and it's just the LFS getting it wrong. They possibly could mean OHMs?
Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
It's really odd. Though found reference to a DT as a "full-moon" because the shape of the tail making it spread more and the elongated dorsal give it a circular shape. Can't find the bloody reference page now which is frustrating because I didn't finish reading it.
But yeah, stupid LFS's and their stupid names!

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
I seen this somewhere on the internet a few weeks ago when I was perving on bettas. I googled it a wee bit & from what I could find it was just a fancy name given to a Halfmoon. I think I actually read on a website that one breeder called his HM's "Fullmoon" because they were "twice as good". There's a name over here for lads like that.....

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
yeah, another name for a more specific 1/2M
"1. About halfmoon betta fish finnage - what is considered a true halfmoon?
Most layman will consider any betta fish with tail shaped in the form of a half-circle to be of halfmoon strain. While this can be used as the basis to determine if you've got a halfmoon betta, the experts will tell you that there is more than meets the eye. A more critical definition of a true halfmoon betta is one which forms an almost complete full circle where the dorsal fin (top), anal fin (bottom) and caudal fin (tail) overlap each other and forms a complete circle. Some may even classify this as a "fullmoon" betta. The halfmoon betta's caudal fin should spread more than 180 degress when flaring and the best halfmoon bettas are those with both edge of caudal fin as straight as possible. The last condition is perhaps the most difficult to fulfill by most breeders since majority of the so-called halfmoon bettas have "rounded" edges and corners at the caudal fin. "

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
I think they are talking about Over Halfmoon. Just using a different name to make them sound more appealing or that they are something different.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
That is what they are calling Double tail Halfmoons on Aquabid. I think it's rather misleading but kind of creative. Here's some pictures of mine.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Yeah they talk about like a special OHM where the other fins, not just the tail, come in to play. It's like the ultimate OHM with all fins being more than they should be, creating a near-full circle of fins.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
The Reddish one has a hard enough time trying to swim fast. I don't know how they could swim with a near full circle of caudal fin. Maybe around in circles? I spawned the Gold one and tried to breed the other one but she was too fat and he was too short bodied. Everytime he went to wrap her,POP! right out the side while he stunned himself and she just looks on like he's an idiot. Hey, over here dummy!

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
It's their 3 fins put together to look like a full moon, not the one fin alone.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Oh, I thought it was because of the two tails being halfmoon together so they called them full moon just to differentiate them. Otherwise a single tailed Halfmoon with full fins that fit into a circle could be considered a full moon. But that's considered to be the ideal show standard.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
Yeah I think it's supposed to be more than full of the other fins as well as being a OHM, beit single or double doesn't matter. But I think so many people got confused on what exactly it is that they make up their own description for it.
Once they're more popular a standard will be set more solidly I think. I know new colorings and tails are being bred all the time.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
I have some Blue Devil males that I posted on Aquabid and then within a couple days I noticed some of the Asian breeders posting similar names for Blue and Red fish. Not the same thing as a Blue Devil but they are trying to cash in on it just the same.

Re: What is a Full Moon betta?
A lot of the thais use the term fullmoon to describe a doubletail halfmoon.. two 'half' tails make a whole one
there is no recognised definition for it though as far as i'm aware.
