right then im doin a fishless cycle on my rio 125 and have been for about 3weeks now. ive notiched my ammonia goin down in 12hrs so thats gd but im having a problem readin the nitrite result. when testing for nitrite i add the solution and it turns dark purple but then goes grey and then after about a min it turns blue to show as no nitrite. any1 got any ideas.

the test kit should have a time for you to read the test. it will be invaild before or after this time so you need to read the instructions carefully.

well it says 5mins and and it shows as 0 but when i did my other tank it jsut went straight to blue and nt the change in colors. also its the api master test kit if that helps

test both tanks again, but make sure to wash the test tubes out very very well before the test. read the tube acording to the intructions and dont worry about it if the other tank goes blue quicker.

It could well be at that stage where the nitrItes have peaked and are falling. Test kits can be a pain sometimes, but like men (hehe) you cant live without them;) Give a day or 2 and try it again:)
