Female Flare
Iv been watching my females quite a lot lately as they keep flaring there fins at each other and looks like they are having a stand off to see which one can last longer! Iv also noticed they hit each other with their flared out tails. Are they fighting to be the top dog; well fish?
They all have a go apart from Bevis my black female she just gets on with it and hides in her coconut house keeps out the way.
Its only started happening since i had to remove Angel 2 days ago as shes not well.

Re: Female Flare
Females will flare at each other. Whenever you add or take away any females the rest of the group will have to re-establish their pecking order, which is probably what they are doing.
Once you add Angel back they'll do it all over again. Females can be real witches at times lol

Re: Female Flare
My girls used to do that, the tail whacking wasn't a concern, it was when they ripped scales off each other!

Re: Female Flare
yeah it does happen I find it funny when they flare and generally just add more caves and plants so that there's more hidy holes and escape routes

Re: Female Flare
Its pretty fully of plants as it is but there is only 1 cave as im planning on moving the "little witches" into the 100 litre tank as soon as its ready. Hopefully then they'll settle in and take cover there!
Thankfully mine are just doing the tail hitting thing and not ripping each other to shreads...as yet, lol!

Re: Female Flare
lol well then no serious damage, they should be fine and as you say the 100l might calm them down, but when you put them in a new tank there will be a scuffle at the start for new territory
