RIP Delilah =(
One of the baby guinea pigs passed away at the vets today. Complaicated story, but I first brought home Delilah with another littermate, not Pixie, but this baby died during the first night after appearing puffed up. I found her dead with slobber around her mouth and jelly-like stuff round her bottom
The dead baby was replaced for me (even though they claimed the first one choked.. yeah right don't insult my intelligence) with Pixie, the remaining littermate sister. Exactly a week from the first death, Delilah became sick so quickly that I barely made it into the vets in time. They gave her IV fluids and glucose as her blood sugar was seriously low (1.4, meant to be 5). They were keeping her in and treating her for an infection, but as the vet was on the phone to me telling me she wasn't picking up, she passed away
So now I just have Pixie left, and i'm so worried she will become ill too. The vet is starting to think it might be a bacterial or viral infection, or genetic as they were all related.
I'm really upset

Thanks guys. The vet says there's nothing he can do for her until she starts showing symptoms as she's ok atm. I'm going down tomo to see if I can beg some antibiotics out of him, as by the time they start showing symptoms it's already too late it seems

Re: RIP Delilah =(
oh I am so sorry. I hope it wasnt a genetic illness.
The girls next door have 2 piggies. But, to be honest in the last 2 years they have had 4 guinea pigs, 2 died out of the blue and now out of the replacements piggies, one has got preggers. In the summer they let them roam round the garden, kids are supposed to watch them. Last summer one of the piggies was lost they searched the garden . Then their father opened the side gate and for some reason looked near the ash boxes the pig was hiding behind them. This was on the edge of the front garden, no wall and right near the road! I worry about them. sorry I am stealing your thread xx

Re: RIP Delilah =(
Everytime I go up to the cage my heart is in my mouth as I dread looking in and finding her gone
Hopefully she'll be a good girl and hang on for me. She's very bright and lively, so i'm feeling more positive!
