Re: first fry!
ahh, make sure you cover any big holes up on your filter. Someone took lots of fry in a pet shop the other day, a few days later they had gone, the holes in the filter were big!

Re: first fry!
havent you got a breeding trap or another tank you can put it in? if not then you might be able to float a cup in the tank with him in.

Re: first fry!
liz- i have hose over the intake since i figured they would eventually give me babies:)
kizno- no i dont have any breeding trap, i floated him in a cup after i found him so i could finish my w/c with out sucking him up but it kept wanting to turn over no matter how little or much water was in it. plus how would he get oxygen? i think he may be ok as long as he stays in the gravel.

Re: first fry!
how tall is the tank if its small enough you might be able to get a 2l bottel and cut the top off and have it sitting on the bottom. and aslong as you change a bit of the water every now and again it should be fine. what else is in the tank because my platies used to eat there babies.

Re: first fry!
when i stood on my breeding trap and broke it i used a bottel cut the top of made a hole in the top put some string through it and tied it to the lid. he might be ok aslong as theres enough hiding places but if only one got this far then his odds arnt to good.

Re: first fry!
i found a tupperware that fits and stays! will he need and substrate? i have some pea gravel. or willl he be ok with a bare bottom? how often should i change the water and how much of it at a time because it wont be oxygenated or filtered?
edit: juat had a thought if i cut a hole in the side of the container and stuffed it with filter foam, would that let in the oxygenated and filtered water?

Re: first fry!
let him out when hes big enough he cant fit in the other fishes mouths. he wont need any substance. you might want to add a small snail because with just one fry it will be quite easy to overfeed and then the snail can eat any left overs on the bottom. how much do you think the tub holds? just every few days swap half the water of so. i wouldnt bother i dout one hole will make much diffrence avan the netting or plastic breeding traps dont get water go though them unless you have the fillter pointed directly at it but its only one little fish that wont make much mess so you dont really need it just change the water every few days :]

Re: first fry!
it only holds bout a pint, maybe a bit more. i already did the hole and sponge thing since i have a hob i put the part with the sponge facing the current. it is working pretty good so far, im using a baby medicine dropper(looks like a mini turkey baster) to suck out any food and poo from the container. it also takes water too!

Re: first fry!
hehe if i get too many they will have to fend for themselves in the tank! i dont think my homemade breeding trap would hold more than the one or maybe two! thank you:)
