Finally got my tank fixed but... Empty Finally got my tank fixed but...

Post by ReptileLuver729 Sun 3 Jan 2010 - 18:12

Well remember when both of my filters stopped working last week? I finally had time the other day, so I went to go pick up new ones and found that the store had every other one besides the one that I needed. See the thing was I had two very small "up to 10 gallons" filters (one in each back corner). So since they didn't the two small ones that I needed I had to get the "up to 20 gallons" one...which isn't a problem it's just that it is bigger. But my real problem is that I think my whole hood crapped out. It accumulates a lot of condensation inside of it and I think that caused the electrical unit inside to stop working. The light burned out a while back and I just got a new one to find that it doesn't even work...so I don't know if that can be fixed or what...Any suggestions would be helpful!

If you get a condensation tray, that will stop the moisture getting up to light etc. They are normally available at most LFS for a few Bucks.

Have you checked the fuse in the plug? Sometimes the fuse will blow to protect the light unit. Or it could be the starter has gone. Its the cylindrical shaped thing that twists in to the light unit. These are often the things that stop lights working.

Actually I do have a condensation tray, but for some reason the water still gets up there. Smile

And if it is what you are talking about how can it be fixed...? Thanks for the help!

I'd check the fuse in the plug first, just take the fuse out and test it in another appliance like a hairdryer or something. If that fuse is ok, then the starter could have gone, assuming we are talking about a tube light? The starter looks like this - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The only thing is, you wont know if its that unless you get a new one. The lfs or a local hardware store should have them for a few Bucks. Just take the one you have with you so they can match the voltage/wattage etc.
