how do you dis-infect live plants
ok, this might sound really stupid, but there has been an outbreak of something in my betta tank, that has wiped out most of my bettas, for those of you who dont know.
I have spent loads of £££ on this tank, so i wont be able to buy new plants, is there anyway i can dis-infect them?
The tank will not beused again till the new year, but i dont know what i will keep then, maybe a sorority, but thats thinking ahead too fast.
Any Advice?

Hi
If you set-up a small tank or conatiner, and put them in it. You will have to feed them as plants need nutrients to stay alive. As they are not going to be used till the new year, keep doing regular water changes. By the time you need them for the proper tank they should be well flushed through:)

I chucked them away, couldnt risk it.
How do i bleace the tank heater, is it safe enough to put it in the bucket with bleach.
I have a bucket filled with water, 4 squirts of anti-bacterial hand gel and a cap or 2 of Asda Smart Price Bleach.
In there is the sand and the coconut caves and filter and holder. I chucked the plants and filter sponge away.
I will let them soak for about 2 days. Is that ok?

I would just give it all a good wipe over in the bucket and remove. Dont leave it all in the bucket too long otherwise the bleach may seep into the rubber etc.
Once you give it all a good wiping, rinse it all really well and leave to dry.
With the substrate, drain the solution off and then leave the tap running into the bucket or other container if it wont fit under the tap. This will rinsed the substrate. Before you get round to using it again, do the bucket rinsing again as you would if it were new.

I havent got to cleaning the actual tank yet, just too out everything in it and have that soaking in a bucket.
Ok will do that with the substrate! I was going to re-wash everything before it goes back into the tank next year anyways. Going to be very cautious!
Thanks for the help!
