Re: rainbowfish and bettas
A word of caution on Bettas with Rainbowfish. I did it for awhile and it seemed to work great, but I eventually lost my Betta. The rainbowfish never touched him, but talking with lots of Betta people the working theory is that all the energy and activity of the rainbows was too much for him.
Hit or a miss chance, cant link to another forum, i have read a few saying its fine and just that ^ saying no.
Temperament: Dwarf neon rainbowfish spend most of their time schooling or looking for food. If no other dwarf neons live in their tank, they will school with other fishes. They patrol the top and middle layers of the tank. However, they do break ranks when food hits the surface. I've never seen them scrounge the bottom for food.
Id give it ago!

Re: rainbowfish and bettas
Hi
Although i dont have a Betta in my 40g, I have ended up with a pair of Rainbowfish (came in with my Danios). They have now been identified as Parkinsons Rainbowfish.
I can say that the male is a very active fish and is most definately the boss of the tank. Quite territorial and very very quick. I dont know if this applies to all the Rainbow species, but I would be very cautious.

Dwarf neons are quie shy, nowhere near as hectic as the bigger rainbows, altho they are very skittish.I had 4 living with my 10 females and they were fine,i only moved them to make more room for more females lol.

Re: rainbowfish and bettas
that aqadvisor is neat. it says I can have 10 more female bettas and 13 more corys in the big tank lol. not sure if that would be correct or not. but the tank is pretty empty as it is right now.

its ok but i wouldnt base my stock on it. it says 1 bn would make my tank 30% stocked.Newfishy wrote:that aqadvisor is neat. it says I can have 10 more female bettas and 13 more corys in the big tank lol. not sure if that would be correct or not. but the tank is pretty empty as it is right now.

It is based on other people's feedback, so hopefully it is ok. Since the last fine tuning for this species, I've yet to receive any negative feedback on this one.

Oh yes this is a common feedback I get and I'm not sure how to explain it in a simple term on the app screen.
Try adding another BN Pleco - it will not jump to 60%. Think of it this way, "one bristlenose requires 30% of this tank". Two bristlenoses will not require 60% of the same tank - it will be less in reality.
In an extreme case, if 10 neons require 10g, that doesn't mean 1 neon can live in 1g tank...
If anyone has an idea for me to state this clearly, I'm open to suggestion... lol.

Re: rainbowfish and bettas
yh i get what you mean it says you need 44% for 2 bns. i desided to get a few more female bettas instead because i didnt want to risk it if it didnt work and no where around me sells them.
