Live VS Silk Plants?
Ok, im getting fed up of the live plants in my betta tank, they are causing more mess than anything. I want a low-maintenance betta tank, are silk plants good, do they look fake?
I hvae seen some tanks with silk plants, dark ones, i think they look nice. SOwhats your thought? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

All of mine have silk plants except the sorority and my new 70litre tank. They can look just as nice as live and there's a huge range of colours these days to pick from [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thanks, i think i might sell all the live plants (betta tank ONLY) except Elodea Densa and Java Fern (they grow the quickest and the most). Then with that money buy some silk plants. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I think Melly gets her black sand really cheap from Southern Aquatics but not sure what areas they are in.

Re: Live VS Silk Plants?
It will over time. My girls tank is a mix of fine gravel and sand. The only problem is gravel cleaning cos the sand gets sucked up but the plants I've got using that mix are all growing really well.

Do you know of anything that i could put ontop of the sand, like a liner and then put the black gravel/sand ontop?

Some people use thin plastic mesh to seperate the sand and gravel, similar to the craft stuff some use as dividers.
