Ok, so i'm setting up the new tank. I have a mix of substrate, black Seachem Flourite and black Sand/tiny gravel. I have a depth of around 2-3 inches.
Some plants come in terracotta or plastic pots which contain sponge stuff. Should the plant be removed from the pots and have the sponge stuff replaced with weights?

What kind of weights Van? Sometimes I find the pots don't work depending on the plant and then have to take them out. I would actually say neither! I have about a 2 inches substrate and all my new live plants (mostly loose stems) went in really easily, the only ones that ended floating a bit were ones that havent rooted since then as not the ideal conditions for them. I have some of the bulkier bunches in terracotta pots but ended up taking them out and replanting as the pot hindered the root growth, I still used the pot to bury the bottom half of the foliage in but allowed the roots more room. Sorry can't help much as Im learning with my plants daily to see what works! I couldnt afford the seachem stuff (even though it is dead gorgeous) so trying my hand at seachem flourish dosing and also pond feed sticks, who knows? LOL.

Best of luck with that substrate the plants are going to look delicious x

I always remove everything, pot, sponge etc and i never use weights either. As long as your substrate is deep enough they should plant easily without keep coming out and floating around.

Ok thanks :D

I will remove everything and plant them:) They should hold in the substrate as the Flourite is very fine and compact.

I love parrots feathers but you dont seem to be able to get it now! If you put it in a bettas tank it sort of grows along the surface and they can rest their butts on it !
