Bubblenest investigation Empty Bubblenest investigation

Post by pippoodle Mon 27 Jul 2009 - 2:04

I've just noticed a bubblenest in my Rio 300 which houses 26 female bettas but also gouramis so now i'm sitting and watching the tank to see who has made the nest in case i have a rogue male - surely if i did he would be aggressive to the girls so must be a gourami

ARGH !!!!!
wanted an early night lol

i think it is a betta cos i just looked and some girls have stripes

but there's no aggression , well apart from the tiny flares from girl to girl when someone trying to sneak on to the best sleeping place lol

If i can see it is a male do i leave him or ARGH !!!!
i'd never intentionally do that but if he is in there he's being kept in check - i feel sorry for the poor bugger

Keep an eye out for the solitary betta, probably sticking to one area like a piece of decor. Comes out when any of the others get too near :D

the girls were distroying the bubble nest so i put some of the bubbles in a small medicine measurer - in case they are gouramis or bettas

i've hatched gouramis in these before

Girl bettas do make bubblenests occasionally as well.

I even know of a girl betta who was alone in a tank, made a bubblenest, filled with eggs, spawned and then took care of the infertile eggs (putting them in the nest etc.) for a few days before giving up and obviously none of them hatched.

My rogue Male hid out by the filter down the side where nobody could see him. Well that was until he started causing mayhem LOL
