My Wood Pigeon
His name is Monster and he is only young, thought i lost him yesterday when i let him out for the first time with my dads homing pigeons. But he has just returned and has gone into his pigeon loft :D I'll get pics soon, just thought i would share him with you as he is a little different to have as a pet.

Re: My Wood Pigeon
Pics please!!
I  pigeons my mate used to have racing ones (think they are the same as homing) and they were gorgeous! Never heard of a wood pigeon is he quite tame??? We have a lost homing pigeon at the farm at the moment have been feeding him horse food! not rang the number on his tag because some people destroy them if they dont return as they are no good for racing!!
WE WANT PICS!!!

Re: My Wood Pigeon
The ting he has on isnt a phone number anyway its a registration number for that specific bird. homing and racing pigeons are the same thing just basicaly means they can fly back to the pigeon loft from distances. Monster isnt tame as i didnt want him flying to anyone when he was let out. Ill have pics in the morning :D

Re: My Wood Pigeon
My son found a racing pigeon in our back garden. It was tired out and at risk from cats. So we popped it in a box with some water and cereal/seeds. Contacted the Pigeon place (cant remember where it was) who told us who it belonged to. We called them amd they denied it was theirs:( So called the pigeon place again and they said that as far as they are concerned, it is registered to them and that they should arrange pick-up. They also said that some keepers dont want to have them back as its probably not a good racer and dont want to pay the courier. So we called the owner again and told them what we had been told. They eventually got the courier to pick it up a week later.
We got quite attached to it really:) It was certainly a lot happier when it left us:)

Re: My Wood Pigeon
Yeahh people are like that, but i always think once a pigeon reahces the age of 3 in its racing career then it shouldnt get lost unless form a race oversees. i always give young birds a chance and pck them up if they get lost lol

Re: My Wood Pigeon
This one we found was from Wales, so as the "pigeon" flies got a great distance really. Just a load of Bristol channel in between:)
