Bettas and Cory's Empty Bettas and Cory's

Post by Nath J Thu 9 Jul 2009 - 22:12

Im not sure if this post is in the right place but i thought this was the most appropriate place to put it.
Now i have finished my male tank with three sections, i was wondering if putting a cory in each section would be okay, i asume they get on fine with male bettas as i have seen them in tanks with other forum users. each section holds over 3 gal and has plants and hiding places. however i have heard that cory's like to be in groups and was wondering if this was true and therefore this idea wouldnt work. if i was to get some cory's it would be panda corys as they are semi small and clean the gravel up of waste food pretty good. Any help would be great as im not 100% sure this idea will work.

Hi Nath

Corys like to be in groups of 3 or more. I have 3 corys in each section of my tanks but they are 7.9 gallon sections. I wouldn't advise having single corys at all. They like to showl together and you will frequently see them swimming around as a group.

They do prefer to be in groups i'm afraid. We have them in with our girls and they get on great but i'm not convinced they would be happy by themselves. Ours shoal all the time and sleep cuddled up next to each other (we have albino and julii corys and they are so sweet!).

I believe with Cories it's the surace area rather than volume of water that is most important. I've just bought 4 and they are quite manic, chasing around the tank lol
