Angry eater.

This is a post made out of curiosity more than anything else. All my bettas are basically hand fed. They know what section they get fed at and are there waiting for me most days. They all take the food as it drops to the surface of the water and happily munch. Well, all except Chai that is. He's a feisty wee sod. He practically jumps out of the water to get at the pellets and snaps at them as if they're going to disappear otherwise.

Are there just some bettas that are aggressive like that?

Sounds like he's just impatient. I have several boys like that, personally I either feed them first or make them wait there turn.

You do get some like that Irish Lass. I've had a few that will flare at their pellets before eating them. They are all so different but I do enjoy the fiesty ones Very Happy

we all have them on occasion lol

rowdy buggers.. only word of caution is water levels compared to tank edge... don't want them leap to the floor

Wanting to eat is a good thing. My new female that's the slowest eater ever, I was afraid she wasn't eating at all at first. I would drop a pellet in and she'd look up at it, pause and then continue playing in the wisteria. She'd watch it fall and almost go for it and then be like ehhh moving to fast. Finally after another 5 minutes the pellets disappear. I don't think she'd ever survive in a sorority tank huh?

Other than that she's nice and plump and even looks a bit eggy to me!

Me too!! I started thinking she was maybe a bit depressed since the breeder had a her in a cup text to a lot of males; maybe she misses them and is lonely??

I put a mirror next to her tank and that seemed to perk her up a bit.

Peanuts has to be fed first as he starts jumping for the food as soon as i lift the lid! i have to have his pellets ready to give to him before i open it or he will jump up and has almost jumped over the side a few times!!

I've been feeding Chai last and it drives him mad. When I open the lid he's sitting bobbing up and down like a petulant 2 year old. Its sort of cute but aye, I'm always worried he'll jump.

Reading this thread makes me think of my 2 impatient females Sen and India! As soon as they see me with the pellets they are there waiting, lift the lid and they are jumping, its so cute. Its worse when i give them blood worm they get so excited!

@Dreaming moonlily - Bevis is so slow at eating she does everything so thoughtfully and slow, so she does miss out on pellets sometimes because she soooo slow!

On of my bettas used to be like that and i always though he jumped fairly hight untill i got my hatchets. When food goes in ive seen them jump about 30cm out the water and jump from one end of a 70cm long tank to the other end.

Aww Beavis sounds juste like my Loralei <3 she looks up at her pellets like, "am I really hungry enough to eat you?"

She likes the blood worms better, i think she waits for the scent?? to reach her so she's sure that's what it is and then will swim up.

Frozen brine shrimp are her favorite though, she eats them right off the spoon <3

Most of my bettas are in the kitchen, in a line. I feed them before I go to bed and switch the lights on under the cupboards so i can see what I am doing! As soon as the lights go on they are all at the top "Feed me, feed me, feed me first Mum not him just me!"
A few weeks ago the main lights in the kitchen broke so we had to use table lamps and....yep the lights under the cupboard! the poor bettas couldnt understand whey no one fed them.... computerlaugh

So funny. I was trying to get food to one particular slow eater, so I was holding my hand over the water ready to drop the pellet once she moved away from the rest a little bit. One of of the other little girls got so impatient she jumped out of the water twice. I felt her hit my finger once. Silly little Blueberry!

Mine doesnt jump out of water but he "dances" on the side of the tank im closest and when i put food he does a little charge to it and as he grabs it shake his head vigorously like a dog (die food die) its kind funny Very Happy

Both of my c/t are fairly aggressive eaters' I take it as they're healthy for the moment. Hope my interpretation is correct. Mine does the feeding wiggle too!
He does it from across from the room and just stares at me. When he stares at me sometimes I wave at him and the wiggle is on! It tickles me!

Mine are fairly calm about eating, well all but Deuce. He tends to get excited and actually splashes water as he attacks his 'prey'. I suppose it's just a case of each fish having it's own personality.

I swear my Blueberry has a nitro button that she pushes only when it's time to race for that worm! And zip! while the other girls are still staring at my hand, Blueberry's already eaten it and is looking for more.
