Tank Heaters and New Tanks
So I got a 6g tank on Sunday. I haven't decided what to do yet. The tank, filter and heater are all running since Sunday evening. I was thinking of using some water from the other tank. I was also thinking of getting a few tetras initally. The lassie in the LPS kept talking about "new tank syndrome" so she's made me a wee bit apprehensive of what I'm doin etc. I was thinking about testing the water on Saturday and then adding a betta if all everything comes up as ok. What do you think? Too soon?
Also folks, how accurate are tank heaters? I initially set it to 27C but the themometer was reading 22C. I put it up a bit more and it was reading 24C. I've now knocked it up to 32C and will see how that comes out with the themometer tomorrow morning. I know the heaters aren't massively accurate but could it be that far out??

Re: Tank Heaters and New Tanks
the tank needs to be cycled first. so the bacteria on the filter media can build up to get rid of the ammonia. you can just take some of the media from your old filter in the other tank into this filter and a bit of the water and it should be fine to add fish.
how many watt is the heater?
maby is still warming the water up?
about 25-50 watt should be fine.

I forget what the wattage is now but since I was buying everything together I know its made to heat the 6 gallons I have. If that makes sense. I'm too lazy to run upstairs and look! LOL

Yeah. I want another betta. I really want a CT but I imagine that I'll end up getting another VT if that's all available when the time comes. As for bottom feeders and other fish.....what would you folks suggest?

I fancy something other than the cory catfish and rummy nose tetras since I already have them, well I'm getting the rummy nose tomorrow night, in 9g but I'm more excited about the betta to be honest.

Are you sure a betta, 5 cory' catfish and 5 rummy nose tetras isn't too much for a 9g? I'm worried about over crowding.

Re: Tank Heaters and New Tanks
I've just put some water from the 9g into the 6g. How long do you think that needs to run through the filter etc. before adding fish? Sorry about the stupid questions. I'd rather ask and sound stupid than not!

Re: Tank Heaters and New Tanks
that stock will be fine aslong as you have a ok filter.
if you use filter media from the other tank to the 6g then it will be fine to add fish streight away and if you leave it to long the bacterial will die and you will have to cycle the tank.
