it looks like it has happened again !!

Well, I was on ebay and noticed some girlies with red bodies and some dalmation spotting on the tails, so I decided to bid on them. Apparently the colours are very bright but as they were put in a trap for photoing they got stressed and lost some colour.

Didnt matter to me, looked like the dalmation gene was there, and they were HM line too, so excellent! I thought it would be a nice change to my VT girls I have.

You can buy three within one postage so I bought two red girls and a blue.

The new girls are in QT - and we have a massive bully. Put her in a breeding trap as I thought maybe its cause there is only three of them there atm - looked at everyone - blue girl has BREEDING STRIPES!!

So - one of my red girls - if not both - are boys! And I cant do anything til they have been in QT for long enough

i forgot to mention - I am 90% sure deep red is male - as that is who stripey girl gets so worked up over.

pale red I am 50/50 on. She doesnt seem to fazed with pale red betta.

They are happily swimming around together - deep red had to be put seperate in the divided tank due to bullying - and already jumping out of the breeding trap once before!

cant help with the gender, but they are pretty! i really like the blue girl

And she has breeding stripes so it looks like my two red girls are boys!

the dark red has more of a male look to it, but they may just be very agressive females, I would hold on to them for a while and see if you can get any decent pics of them flairing for us.

I havent seen them flare at all yet, as soon as the QT period is over I am going to flat them in with my boys.

The fact the blue girl gets stripey really bad I think both reds are boys!

Could a girl go super stripey even with other girls?

When she was in the breeding trap (as she was the bullied) when the dark red went near her she would immediately get breeding stripes and go nose down.

Lots of fighting between the two reds too.

Will try them in the boys tanks (in traps) in a mo then lol

The only one I would say could be male is the last one. I cant see an egg casing which is normally visible in that colour of betta.

well - the dark red one went stripey in with a boy - so I knew that was deffo a girl.

the cameo one I wasnt sure, so as they are all out of QT now I put them all in the girls tank (as s/he didnt flare at all) and now the cameo is getting chased by the older girls!

The one I thought would be a boy is a girl! lol

Would a girl go stripey round other girls? or does it only happen with boys?

Its generally only when a male is around, but with bettas nothing is that simple lol
