Post by Mewmew42 Sat 30 Jan 2010 - 21:05

I saw what I thought to be a female betta in one of the sumps at work, she was all on her lonesome so I took her home

now shes either VERY aggressive or a male.....

we've never had males in that system at all..they are always separate...unless one snuck in from a batch of females :S

help me determine the gender please! He/she is in the bag still flaring at everything =[

now I can see an ovipositer [or whatever its called lol] but Ive also heard that its not always true to gender :S

best flaring pic I could get, is it classed as a beard?

I would say yes it is a female I can definitely see she has eggs so she must just be a female with an attitude problem! Its hard to see rays because she's red. female plakat's can be a bit more aggressive but she is very pretty, what are you keeping her with?

I was gonna put her in with my other females!

But now im having seconds thoughts, she can see a male though the bag and is going ape, flaring and trying to attack, she does this for everything that passes....i might have to keep her separate somewhere :\

Agree with everyone on female. Some can be quite dominant and aggressive. She's very pretty though [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Well if you put her in a breeding trap in your females tank you could let her settle for a week then let her out and see how it goes. I know some of my females will flare and be aggressive towards males but not to other females as males are a bit scarier and more of a threat

Some of my girls flare quite abit too but none have nipped fins. I think some times it's just for show and to say who's boss.

I would do as Tilly said and try the breeding trap first.

Well he is a complete stunnner drool but I think you could get a better female for him if Im totally honest, red is a dominant gene and if you could get a HM blue or green or even black female Im sure you could get some stunning fry. I would make the investment of another female purely based on how beautiful he is

Thats true Id love to find a nice female for him, but I dont know where to find one Sad

He's very placid, Ive never seen him flare, she would tear him apart! But that would be a lovely combo. Is she a plakat then?

I have a solid black male plakat too with blue on the tail, or a mustard gas plakat that would be nice to breed, but the blue boy above is my most wanted!....most of my bettas are plakats lol

She is very pretty, the girl at the top, but I would put her to a nice solid red boy I think you could get some corking solid red HMPK's using her but for the green boy Id go for a nice complimentary colour to his own. Of course these are just opinions and its possible to breed any pair.

haha Embarassed

I was only going to breed them cause of the lovely colours =]

I would love a green or even a white female for him, HM or CT, I did have a cellophane HM female :'(

The 2 boys here were ordered in from work the blue boy was £6 for me and the black was £13 I think, my other males came from an LFS near me but sometimes they are in bad shape!

That female was sookie, she was cambodian with pink butterfly in her Sad I bred her before and got eggs but they ate them all, then I had a disease brought in by some females and killed most of them other than the orange girl and her:

So Im owed some females when they come in, so Ill look out for some good colours
