newbie advice please
hi all top forum!
please can you help me?
six months ago bought my first tank a aquastart 320 (28ltr) and tried different fish but not really happy with them. (many casualties)
i like the idea of a betta but
1.is my tank suitable (28ltr cube style with heater and interpet internal filter)?
2.can anything else live along with a betta?
3.where to purchase a betta in lancashire area?
your advise would be really appreciated

Re: newbie advice please
hiya
Welcome to the forum!
1.) 28L is brilliant for a betta. And as it has a filter and heater, thats an added bonus!
2.) You could try;- Shrimp and/or Snails.
3.) Try your LFS, or try forums (Classifieds Section) The admin of this forum, Netty And Van, breed and sell bettas too, so if you want to wait for some good quality ones then buy it from them.
Is the filter cycled? And Bettas love plants, preferably Live or Silk as plastic ones will rip there fins. You will catch your betta sleeping in plants, which is very funny to watch!
Hope that helps, and if you have anymore questions just ask!

Re: newbie advice please
Hello & welcome
The tank you have is perfect We also have one of them. Due to the male bettas territorial nature it is very much down to luck whether they will live with other fish. In the tank you have shrimp may be the better option. Its possible that a few small rasboras may be ok, but its best to add the betta last and make sure there are plenty of plants etc
You'll need to keep a close eye on them though.
The Aquastart320 we have has been divided to house 2 males, so thats another option

Re: newbie advice please
Id reccommend java Fern. This type of plant is not buried in substrate but should be tied to a pebble or wood.
It needs no light too, well some light is good. !
Also Elodea Densa is good, it grows really fast, can be buried in gravel and needs a small amount of light

Re: newbie advice please
Cabomba is another easy growing plant and grows very quickly. Also agree with above for java fern and elodea [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
