African dwarf frogs... Yes?
Hi all. Triskel has settled nicely into a 30L half hexagon tank (I will get a pic up in the near future but right now I'm surgically attached to my sofa and glass of well deserved italian white). I have a great big apple snail, Hera, in with Zeus and they get on like a house on fire. Now the day I bought Triskel he had to spend the night in a divided section of Zeus' tank and I have reason to believe that Triskel is on the gentle side (he jumped into the other section the numpty and when I woke up and checked them neither had any marks on them... they might have been fine but I nearly had a heart attack). I have also read that African dwarf frogs might make good tank mates.... Now his tank is looking ever so empty at the moment and I would like to try it if I can. I was thinking if I get 2 then they would have company and if he does turn out to be vicious I will be standing by to pop them straight in another tank. Has anyone tried this before?

Re: African dwarf frogs... Yes?
Hi Cherry Ive heard frogs can work yes, I havent tried it myself, I prefer to have shrimp in my tanks, they are good little cleaners as well as tank mates as long as you get amano sized or above...bumble bee cherry etc have got eaten every time in my experience.
Im glad your boys are ok after their tussle, most likely you were quick off the mark as they will size each other up and flare briefly before the actual fighting sets in

Thanks Wilson I do love shrimp,I have cherries in with my male guppies (hence the name!) and ghost in with the dwarf puffers but I'd like something different. They will be going in with my female guppies if things don't work out.

I've know quite a few people keep frogs with their Bettas. Like you said just be ready in case there is any trouble.

I'm having that problem myself over here in the UK... All the shops round here have ones that look suspiciously like clawed frogs... Can't buy them at the moment anyway because I'm still treating the tank for ich

I learned the frog lesson the hard way,,
The tetras kept doing a disappearing act and so I blamed the catfish,,
(The usual suspects and guilty parties)
That was till I saw a tetra tale sticking out from the corner of the frogs mouth like a cigar,,
It got it's own home then grew to about 4 inches,,
The dwarfs are cool though,,
Glad the link has proved useful,,

Boyd's at the trongate always has african dwarf frogs in. He has clawed frogs as well, but majority time both are in. Dobbies had them in recently as well(one in Stirling). And The Aquarium in Bankside Industrial Estate also stocks them

Heh, Boyd's is one of these places you really have to ignore the condition of the shop and tanks. It looks absolutely horrid, but the fish we've bought from there have been in great health. Most of them are homebred as well.
If you're down that way, you should check out the shops on Paisley RD and Paisley RD West as well. Coral Reef is full of ignorant staff, but tanks nice and clean. Aquarium Design has awesome bits of sumatra wood, and lovely plant stockings as well. Waterworld(think thats what the other is called) has great stock of fish.

Coral Reef was one we used to frequent but last time we were in there they took the piss about how often we bought stuff for our fish... it was kinda embaressing so I thought fair enough, if you don't want return customers then thats fine with me! We travelled all the way out to East Lothian Aquatics to get our dwarf puffers and it was worth the trip. Ta for the advice!

How big does an African Dwarf frog grow?? Would it be ok to keep it in a 21 litre tank?? Thinking about getting one for a while...but a little unsure

Re: African dwarf frogs... Yes?
Nataliey - 1 or 2 should be fine in there I think.
I have ADF's and they are lovely little things - so funny the way they just "flake out" sometimes... you'd honestly think they were dead the way they position themselves!
1 word of advice would be to feed them with tweezers if they are in the tank with a betta - they have poor eyesight and the betta will eat the frog's dinner quicker than the frog will smell it! They like a very meaty diet of bloodworms
