Poor little rescue girl Empty Poor little rescue girl

Post by crystal Fri 5 Jun 2009 - 13:40

Whilst browsing at my local maidenhead aquatics i noticed they'd had a new shipment of females. As always i had a good look as they always get a lot of male plakats sent with their females. I noticed floating at the top of the water a tiny little beaten up girl and when i looked closer she has a really badly curved spine, in fact if you look down on her she's a perfect S shape. After having a moan about males being kept with females i asked if i could have the little deformed girl for a reduced price. The boss turned round and said i could have her for nothing ( i know him quite well now and he knows i'd of just kicked up a big fuss lol). So anyway she is now at home in her own section of the tank, she was to tiny to put in with my girls, she seems happy, is eating and is losing her stress stripes. Can anyone give me any idea of how long she's likely to live or whether she should be euthanized? I know it sounds harsh but she does stuggle to swim and hold herself upright, i don't want to cause her anymore torture. I will try and get a pic of her in a bit so you can see exactly what i mean x x pale

well if she had managed to live this long then she has a fairly good chance of a reasonable normal life, as long as she can surface for air and get to her food I would let her live.

Awww bless her. At least she has a fighting chance now with you. I would let her live too. We have a baby at the moment with an S shaped spine and he is doing fine. We also have another from last years babies who's grown now and nearly a year old, who also has a kink in his spine. He is active and eating well and has never had any other problems. You may find that once she is settled with you and has time to recover, she will perk up and become more active. Poor little thing must have been quite stressed where she was and just needs a little TLC.

Look forward to seeing some pics of her thumbup

Well last night i was looking for slinky and couldn't find her, i started to panic thinking she'd died. I looked in tarquins section and the little mare had jumped the divider and was swimming round his side. Luckily he wasn't interested in her at all so there was no fighting. Of all the fish i can't believe she was the one to scale the divide!!!
