Post by chuwee Mon 10 Aug 2009 - 2:54

Here are a couple of pics of my birds. I have two Love Birds named Peeps and Baby. An African Grey named Luna, and my White Capped Pionus named Murlin. They are all so much fun to have around.

Wow! They are beautiful. Aren't the African Greys very talkative and easily pick up tricks? Never had one, but the ones I have seen all seemed SUPER smart...

Thank everyone for the nice complements. I really enjoy having them. I never had a bird until I got Murlin, and now I don't know what I would do without them.

Nath J, I really don't find Luna hard work at all. She isn't a food ******, so that helps alot. She is pretty neat for a bird actually. I have known her almost her entire life. My friend had her at her bird shop and have known her since she was a few weeks old. She is almost three years old now, and does have a few times where she doesn't want to do what I want her to. It's like having a kid and she tosses a hissy fit..lol She has really started talking alot these days, picking up many new saying on a daily basis. She amazes me and makes my hubby and I laugh so much.

babyd, I know what you mean by that screech. It does go through you at times. For small birds, they make more noise than my larger birds do. But I can't help but love em.

how gorgeous. Is the White Capped Pionus a Parrot? he is absolutely stunning!! Have always loved African greys but Murlin is like an African grey but with some colour!!

My friend used to have Macaws and they were fab they used to sit on your shoulder and shout F off at people!! (we were only young thought it was a great thing to teach them!! :Lol!: )

Do yours ever pull thier feathers out a guy that used to live opposite me had an african grey that he had inherited form his gran and after he got it he started pulling his feathers out (the bird not the guy) the vet said it was distress from being seperated from it original owner.

My mum has always wanted a Parrot but the life Spans are abit off putting! Sad I would love her to get one I could teach it every word under the sun!! 🤣 sunny

Murlin is indeed in the parrot family. There are several sub species of Pionus. He is the smalles of the sub species. None of my birds pluck their feathers unless they are molting. Some parrots do pluck when they are stressed out. I can understand why your friends Grey did that. They are the type of parrot that get really attached to their people, and can pull their feathers out when they are stressed out.
