Birdies

Post by Netty on Sun 6 Jun 2010 - 21:48

So wish I'd taken my zoom lense with me as my Aunt & Uncle have a falcon nest at the top of their house. Tried to get some good shots of the parents flying in and out of the nest but these were the best of the bunch.

Unfortunately this little one either fell or was pushed from the nest.

Then at the front of the house just in the porch was a nest of what I think are Red Tailed Swallows.

Thanks SR. Was fascinating watching the Falcons come and go but every morning we'd find dead food on the ground that Mum & Dad missed the nest with. Two baby birds, 1 lizard and a mouse in just a few days.

I could just make out the babies from the ground too. Just wished I'd had my other lense with me.

Thanks Kizno. I know it's nature for them to chuck out the smallest when they start to struggle for space and food but still awful to see and yes they are flippin messy LOL

The Falcon nest was on the outside wall of my bedroom so was woken up every day by them shrieking for food LOL

ours was over the patio so that was covered in bird poo ever morning. The only problem with ours was they nested just under the roof and loads of bugs kept gettng into our house some how so we nocked the nest down after they went.

Thanks Irish Lass.....they are such beautiful birds.

Tilly......unfortunately the little one that got kicked out didn't make the night. It must have gotten too cold without the body warmth of the others. Was so sad Sad

Cheers TG....that was just a lucky shot. I'd climbed up to take a pic of the nest and suddenly all their little heads popped up, so quickly took another shot lol

Thanks Haych. It was really sad that he didn't make it. I was trying to make up something to pop in the box to keep him warm but then he jumped out onto the roof and we couldn't catch him to pop him back in.

Thanks Kel.....I spoke to my Aunt the other day and apparently another fell out and even though it was eating the worms they found for it, it sadly died too. So just 2 babies left now.

The other little swallow babies have all grown and flown the nest so that was good news Very Happy

Off to check out your magpie now thumbup
